Coach Katie Sterling, a 2002 graduate and former player of Warren Easton has been named the head coach of Easton’s girls’ basketball team. Sterling is no stranger to the game of basketball as she played for Delgado Community College and the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma. She has been Mimms’ assistant coach for the past 13 years and was a part of creating a winning culture earning 3 state championships and 2 runner-up honors.She has served as an assistant coach for the AAU boys team, New Orleans Future, and EP Elite (girls). She is also a part of the football coaching staff as the equipment manager and is the assistant softball coach.
With Mimms, she has helped several students earn basketball scholarships to colleges and universities throughout the country, such as the University of Louisiana-Monroe, Memphis, Tulane, SUNO, Southern (Baton Rouge), Delgado Community College, Trinity Valley, and Mississippi Gulf Coast. She also assisted in helping a softball player earn a scholarship to Crown College.
Sterling is a proud parent of one son, Amar’e. As the head coach, Sterling is hoping to continue the legacy of greatness that she experienced as a student-athlete of Easton and continue to help develop young ladies into great leaders to be exemplars in their communities.
